General information: Sudan borders the Red Sea, and is bounded by; Egypt, Libya, Chad, C.A.R., Congo D.R. , Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Eritrea. The country ranges from desert in the North, grassy plains and swamps in the central region, and lush tropical areas in the South A low level of industrialisation, and the great distances between towns is a disadvantage to development.
Exports: Cotton, gum Arabic, sesame seed, peanuts, sorghum.
Mining: Limited to salt, chromium, and small amounts of gold. At least six overseas companies, mainly American are exploring for oil.
